MR (Medium Rigid) Truck License Requirements

A MR (Medium Rigid) Licence covers any truck or bus with 2 axles. You must have held your car Licence or higher for at least 12 months.

  • Any motor vehicle with two axles and more than 8 tonnes GVM.
  • Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM.

Pre-requisites

Applicants must:

  • Have held a Class C licence (not a learner) for at least one year.
  • Complete the Roads and Maritime Service Rigid knowledge test and obtain a
  • Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) logbook and guidebook.
 

Course Duration

Applicants will receive up to 6 hours training and assessments time, however a 48 hours notice is required by Roads and Maritime Services for the final competency to be conducted.

  • Road Rules & Directions
  • Reverse
  • Hill Stop/Start
  • Load Securing bus
  • Stop Procedure- BUS ONLY
  • Final Competency Test
  • Summative Assessment
